If you have lidar scanning equipment and are in the United States, we would love to discuss pairing our BIM modeling experience with your scanning and equipment.

Why Market Scan to BIM to Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) Professionals?

  • AIA Firm Survey Reports regularly show that between 40-50% of design activity is dedicated to improving existing buildings.
  • We streamline the as-built capture and get them to that point faster.
  • Many architects want as-built drawings but prefer to subcontract the measuring and modeling work, so they can concentrate on designing rather than spending time on measurements.
  • Some haven’t priced Scan to BIM options in many years or may only be aware of your competitors that may cost significantly more than you.
  • Many still use hand measurements.
  • Educating them on cost-effective Scan to BIM solutions can position you as a valuable partner.
  • Large entities such as Universities or restaurant chains are constantly doing renovations of all sizes and they often employ AEC professionals.  They can use virtual tours and point clouds with their internal design teams for smaller projects and with external AEC teams for larger projects.  This saves them time travelling across campus or to faraway places to take photos, etc.
  • BIM deliverables tailored to their standards make your service more than just a commodity.
  • Once AEC professionals experience the efficiency of point clouds, virtual tours, and BIM models, they rarely go back to manual methods.
  • Architects reference virtual tours hundreds of times per project, making navigation easier than using photos.
  • Including screen captures from virtual tours in construction drawings can simplify construction documentation, reducing the need for complex modeling.

Why Partner Your Scanning and AEC Client Relationships with Eureka’s BIM Modeling?

  • With over 20 years of experience in architectural drawing and BIM modeling for building renovations and additions, we have a deep understanding of what’s truly needed in Revit models and CAD files.
  • We have our own satisfied architect clients for our own scan-to-BIM work. References available upon request.
  • If you have laser scanning equipment, but don’t know much about the AEC industry, we can help you speak their lingo.
  • We personally review our team’s work to ensure accuracy and avoid costly mistakes.
  • Unlike some other online BIM services, we know common American AEC standards.
    • Not knowing these things can lead to embarrassing mistakes in your BIM deliverables.
    • Examples are common door dimensions, thickness of CMU, wood studs, metal studs, brick, etc. that are unique to the United States.
  • We are not a “one size fits all company” because AEC is not a “one size fits all” industry.
  • We know that each reality capture company is different, so we’re happy to adapt to your preferences.   Whether that’s your working hours, billing, communication platforms, contracts, time zones or any other quirks, we pride ourselves on finding ways to meet your needs.  We’re even open to helping with your marketing efforts that help you procure the work at no charge to you with the understanding that we’ll sign a contract with you once you’ve signed a contract with your client.
  • We can work directly with your clients or communicate with them through you to establish your company as a scan-to-BIM expert.  You can even assign us an email address with your domain name.
  • Every AEC company has their own drawing and BIM modeling standards. Learning and implementing their standards in deliverables can help you keep their business, but it can also take significant time and effort. We can help you with this.
  • We help you navigate the differences between different file formats, client expectations, required levels of detail, and project-specific needs.
  • We can also help your AEC clients think through their requirements for significant cost savings on scan-to-BIM services.
    • Example 1:  If your lidar scanning equipment is less expensive and less precise than your competitors, we can help convince your AEC clients that the extra precision they’ll gain from working with your competitors is not worth the extra cost they’ll pay.  The point cloud’s level of precision is usually far less important than the level of detail in the model and your ability to understand your client’s needs.
    • Example 2: One architect I talked to recently paid $14,000 to a competitor reality capture company for scanning and BIM so they could do a schematic design to evaluate whether their client should purchase a specific building. Going through the schematic design phase revealed that this building was not a good fit for their client’s needs, so their client did not purchase the building and did not proceed to later design phases. For only about $4,000, I could’ve done scan and BIM suitable for schematic design, and we could’ve added more fee later if the project had progressed to later design phases, all without returning to the building for more scanning, though my prices would have still been far less than the $14,000 they paid to my competitor.

    • Example 3:  We were able to use old architectural hand drawings of a church tower in our deliverables to save the time, cost, and danger of climbing and scanning the interior of the 70 foot tall church tower.
    • Example 4:  Often an architect will know prior to the lidar scan, for example, that they will demolish all the finish flooring, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and ceilings in certain rooms as part of a renovation project.  In such cases, it’s usually much easier and less expensive to handle much of the demolition with keynotes and photos (often taken from a Matterport virtual tour) in their renovation drawings rather than someone paying the “as-built” team to make BIM models of these items.
  • We provide guidance on optimal scanning techniques (e.g., lowering tripods for better visibility of power and data outlets below desks, etc.).
  • We can integrate and manage models in Autodesk BIM 360 for real-time collaboration.  This even enables us to work on Revit models at the exact same time as your clients if the situation calls for it.
  • We know and use many of the non-BIM software platforms that AEC companies use.  For example, Bluebeam, ProCore, e-Builder, PlanGrid, etc. This makes it easier for us to communicate revisions, etc. with them than it would be for you.

  • When needed, we work with American Professional Engineers for Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural scan-to-BIM guidance.
  • Having a licensed architect and professional engineers on your scan to BIM team can strengthen your sales pitch and credibility with AEC clients.
  • The USA has a lot of unique building materials, practices, and measurement units. Working solely with teams outside the U.S.A. can lead to unacceptable and embarrassing results if they are unfamiliar with the way things are done in the U.S.A.
  • Unlike some unresponsive foreign outsource companies, we pride ourselves on our responsiveness.
